Flareweed

Flareweed is a type of grass that grows in dry, hot environments. During extreme heat waves, the plant can retract its blades until the temperature reaches a more tolerable level. Individual flareweed plants grow alongside one another and their roots form an interwoven clump that appears to be a solid mass on first glance. The roots and the leaves can be processed and used as a component in water filtration systems.
